EMI/RFI Shielding and Functional Coatings

Mueller Corporation offers a variety of functional coatings including; EMI shielding (Electro Magnetic Interference), RFI shielding (Radio Frequency Interference), ESD shielding (Electro Static Discharge), heat shielding, and vapor barriers. We utilize two different types of PVD processes; thermal evaporation Vacuum Metalizing and Magnetron Sputtering Vacuum Metalizing. We also offer conductive painting for applications that canŐt be met w/ vacuum metalized coatings.

Both Vacuum Metalizing and Conductive painting have their own advantages, which is why we offer both services.

We offer the two most common methods of PVD; thermal evaporation vacuum metalizing and magnetron sputtering vacuum metalizing for EMI/RFI shielding. We have proprietary thermal evaporation vacuum metalizing systems that can achieve thicknesses of over 25 microns of aluminum. Our multi layer sputtering vacuum metalizing system can be used to apply Copper/Stainless Steel, Cooper/Chrome, Copper/NiChrome and other combinations to meet your shielding requirements.

EMI/RFI shielding utilizing vacuum metalizing does not accumulate inordinately large build-ups or deposits. Mueller Corporations process is free of peeling and flaking due to proprietary pretreatment processes.

Vacuum metalizing and conductive painting EMI/RFI Shielding can be used for a wide variety of applications across a broad range of industries including medical, defense and aerospace, contract manufacturing, and automotive.

Mueller Corporation has its own in-house tool shop Designers Metalcraft which we work closely with to develop the optimum configuration and density to get the job done right at a competitive price. We have the technology to mask areas to very tight tolerances and leave the areas clean that you desire.

We have had a history of customers that use our vacuum metalizing and conductive painting services for EMI/RFI shielding including; Raytheon, BAE, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics, IBM, Ericsson, Motorola, Hewlett Packard, NEC, and more.

Vacuum metalizing of both aluminum and chrome can also be used as an oxygen and vapor barrier for protecting moisture sensitive marine, military, electronic and telecommunications equipment.

EMI/RFI Shielding using vacuum metalizing has an application potential that is much larger than the industries and customers represented above. So, when you are designing a new part, consider the advantages of vacuum metalized EMI/RFI Shielding. Mueller Corporation process of superior adhesion, thickness, and depth of penetration has succeeded where other shielding methods have failed. We can give your product what it needs with an economical and environmental advantage when compared to other methods.
